SOUTHWICK – Sarah Charlesworth Saunders, 93, of 34 Ahrend Circle, Southwick, died Friday, January 4, 2013 in La Hague, VA, of natural causes, while visiting her daughter Debra. Born Sarah Bird, October 24, 1919 in Hartford, CT, she had lived in Southwick since 1942.
Mrs. Saunders is survived by her sister, Winna Grant, 5 children, 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Emerson; her son, Ronald and her granddaughter, Lynn Sarah. Her surviving children are Emerson, Jr. and his wife Rita, Bruce and his wife Dale, Judith Ronk, Debra Booze, and Robert and his wife Julie. Sarah was a long time member of the Methodist Church, the Congamond Lakes Association, and the Southwick Grange where she served as treasurer. She was employed by the Digital Corporation in the 70’s and was a newspaper carrier for the Springfield Daily News for over 50 years. In retirement she was employed by the Big Y grocery stores.
The funeral will be held Monday, January 14, 2:00 p.m. at the College Highway Methodist Church, Southwick.
