GRANVILLE – John Ernest Buy, 86, of Granville, MA and Stuart, FL passed away on June 22, 2013 after a long illness. Born to Walter and Margaret Buy on September 9, 1926 in Plainfield, NJ, “Jack” was known early on as a mischief maker to his classmates at Saint Mary’s.
Jack enlisted in the Navy during WWII serving in the Pacific aboard the Saint Paul. Taking advantage of the GI bill, Jack attended Brown University earning a degree in Business. After graduating he moved to New York City to begin his career and cemented a lifelong love for jazz. He meet his wife of 48 years Priscilla Hiers eventually relocating to her hometown of Granville, MA. A life time advocate for reading, Jack believed the key to success was the ability “to read and read with comprehension. If you can do that the world is open to you.” Jack and Priscilla explored much of that world together spending most of their lives traveling it. His daughters fondly remember a family trip rafting on the Snake River when he combined his love for an adventure and literature as his booming voice bounced off the canyon walls reciting Shakespeare. Jack will be remembered as a gentleman often helping people in need anonymously during difficult times in their lives.
Jack leaves behind three daughters, Cooley Buy of Granville, MA, Martha and husband David Geschwind of Granville, MA. and Amelia and husband David Goldrup of Willington. NC.; four grandsons, Michael, Austin and Benjamin Geschwind, and Jacob Wrenn; three long time friends, John Carpenter, Bobbie Schlosser and Bruce Bunker as well as a recent friend, Ray Dell Aquilla who helped and encouraged him during very difficult times. He was predeceased by his wife Priscilla; his sister, Betty Walsh and brother, Walter Buy. A private service will be held to honor Jack.
