WESTFIELD – After a defeat in their last game at the hands of their crosstown rivals, the 10-11 year old Westfield North All-Stars came into last night’s matchup with Agawam fired up, and subsequently took their frustration out on the visiting Little Brownies 10-0 at Paper Mill Field.
North was able to hit the pools early, as the game was called in the fourth inning thanks to the League’s mercy rule, which states that if a team is up by ten runs by the fourth, the game is called.
Behind a masterful pitching performance from Jack Masciadrelli that saw him no-hit North’s Route 187 rivals, Westfield’s Red team was also able to torment Agawam’s pitching rotation with a barrage of hits of their own, seemingly putting the ball in play at will.
North’s offense was led by Masciadrelli, who registered two hits, and Ryan Moorhouse, who made contact and reached base safely twice. Other offensive highlights for the evening were a triple from Walter Figueroa, and hits from Jack Lamirande, Will Cameron, and Chris Barber.
Following his team’s triumphant victory to get back on the winning track, North Coach Billy Lamirande was all business when addressing his boys.
“I told them that it doesn’t end here,” the coach said, in an attempt to get his squad mentally prepared to face Northampton tomorrow night. “We beat them 13-0 earlier in the year, but scores don’t matter at this point. You have to play your best each night to win.”
When asked what the win against Agawam meant for his team, Lamirande was quick to point out that he was excited to see how his team responded after their loss to South.
“I was happy to see them not be affected by it,” Lamirande said. “It was nice to get this win.”
A final tune-up tomorrow in Hamp is all that stands between a potential rubber match with South this weekend.
