Accident victim critical

WESTFIELD – A city man, Daniel R. McBeth, 58, of 180 Main St., remained in critical condition Tuesday morning after he was struck by a car Friday evening while walking in the Main Street roadway in the area of his home
Police Capt. Michael McCabe reports that the man was stuck by a motorist who said that he had swerved due to other traffic and struck the man.
McCabe said that two vehicles had been traveling eastbound on Main Street and the operator of one of those vehicles, a 2002 Toyota Celica, reports that as he was operating in the travel lane a vehicle in the passing lane swerved into his lane forcing him to also swerve.
When the operator swerved, the Celica struck the man who was in the roadway.
McCabe pointed out that the crash occurred across the street from the victim’s home and speculated that he had been attempting to cross the street when the accident occurred.
McBeth was transported to Baystate Medical Center where he was reported to be in critical condition Monday morning.
