WEST SPRINGFIELD – The members of the West Springfield Coin Club are getting ready for their fall coin show and will welcome coin collectors of all levels of interest to the Dante Club in West Springfield on Sunday, Oct. 27.
The club sponsors coins shows semi-annually, in the spring and fall, and invites everyone with an interest in coins and other collectibles to the social club located at 1198 Memorial Drive where coin dealers will gather to buy, sell and appraise coins and some other collectible items.
The show will open at 9:30 a.m. and will continue until about 3 p.m.
According to club president Peter Setian, the show has been a local tradition for more than 25 years and has been sited at its current venue since 1988.
Setian said that visitors will find 10-15 vendors at the show.
Previous participants have been mailed a reminder of the upcoming show and those who bring their postcards with them will be offered a random pick from a group of vintage U.S. coins.
A raffle will also be offered and light refreshments will be available.
Not only do the coin shows offer hobbyists an opportunity to expand their collections but they also raise operating expenses for the club which meets monthly, with a summer hiatus during July and August, at the Church of the Good Shepard, 214 Elm St., West Springfield, where guests are always welcome.
The meetings are generally staged on the second Sunday of the month at 7 p.m. The remaining meetings of 2013 will be on Nov. 10 and Dec. 8.
At each meeting, a program about a specific aspect of coin collecting is offered after the club’s business is conducted.
Following a social break, members of the club offer a limited selection of coins and related items at a small auction.
