W. Mass. teen gets Nashville recording contract

CHARLEMONT (AP) — Holly Mae Brown, 16, of Charlemont, has a Nashville recording contract, propelling her musical career on its way.
A former contender for “The Voice” television show, Brown now goes by the stage name of Holly May. In September, she went to Nashville to record her single, “I’ve Been on the Run,” and filmed scenes for her music video in Jersey City, the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D.C., and on Broadway.
According to her mother, Heather Brown, Holly signed her first record deal with SoNo Recording Group. SoNo founder, Claude Villani, has made a deal with Spotify for worldwide distribution through Spotify’s online music-streaming services.
“It’s a full-service label dedicated to breaking new artists and expanding existing artists,” Brown explained, in an email. “The label’s market approach is centered around social media, collaboration and interactive services.”
Holly’s manager is Enoch Jensen, and Holly will be making a five-song, extended-play recording at Eastlake Recording Studio in Shelburne Falls. According to Brown, the EP should come out sometime in November and the video filmed on the way to Nashville may come out in November or later.
“Holly should start touring sometime in the spring,” said her mother.
Brown, who was a junior at Mohawk Trail Regional School, will be home-schooled through the Greenfield Commonwealth Virtual School, so that she can pursue her musical career.
She also plays center forward for the Mohawk Warrior Field Hockey Team.
