I just came across an article from September 2012 that Ronald F. Cappa from Westfield wants to reopen The Bowling Center on Church St. I am all for a Candle Pin Bowling alley in Westfield and it would make a great addition to the ‘new ‘ downtown. Is this still in process? Any additional information would be great. Here’s the latest on the situation from Peter Francis’ story published on August 15 of this year.
I was very disappointed to see your headline for the senior center meeting as low when I had checked your paper for the listing of that meeting- not published! I would have gone to the meeting if I had been able to confirm there was one! As a property abutter on two sides of the center I am concerned about the plan. One of my biggest concerns is the housing that is NOT senior housing anymore and the disrespect that those people have for anyone’s property. I have seen doors left open in the middle of winter on the coldest days, and other signs of misuse. How are they going to treat a new center that is not meant for them???
PulseLine – good morning! Southwick – this is for the police chief. Sir, before somebody on a bicycle gets killed, or seriously hurt in your town, why don’t you take the time to publish a little article in this fine newspaper, so that everybody will know the law on riding bicycles on the main roads and residential roads in the town of Southwick before one of the bikers gets killed or seriously hurt? I do understand that they probably are able to ride their bikes on the roads. I don’t have a problem with that. I do have a problem with them riding two and three abreast and holding up traffic and refusing to move out of the way. I’m putting it on your shoulders to save somebody’s life, so do this. Good day, sir.
I challenge any Westfield city councilman or woman to put in place some type of bylaw where you can keep chickens in a residential area. Any one of them. Let’s see if it gets down. There’s nothing wrong with having a handful of chickens and having fresh eggs for yourself and your family. C’mon!
I can’t believe when I went to the Bonton yesterday that there’s a level three sex offender ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. Don’t these people do a CORI check on these people? Unbelievable! The world is coming to a close. Congressmen getting arrested for cocaine, minimum wage going up to $11 an hour, and now I’ll have to get rid of my chickens or I’ll get fined $650! The director of the Salvation Army in Westfield reports that she does not perform CORI checks on the volunteer bell ringers largely because ringing a bell for the Salvation Army does not position a person to re-offend. The person in question, she said, was ringing the bell in company with his wife and was performing court ordered community service while giving back to the community and working to rehabilitate himself.
