SPRINGFIELD – As thousands of travelers head home for Thanksgiving, Peter Pan Bus Lines is preparing for what is always one of its busiest travel times. Peter Pan buses will carry approximately 150,000 passengers from Tuesday November 26 through Monday, December 2 and has added departures to its regular route service during the Thanksgiving travel period. The company estimates that it transports close to 1 million college students per year from large campuses such as UMass Amherst and major hubs such as Boston South Station and expects that many college students throughout the Northeast will travel via Peter Pan Bus to get home for the holidays. Peter Pan bus customers are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes early due to the increase of travelers.
In recent news Peter Pan has purchased 42 new buses in the past 12 months to add to its modern fleet of buses.
“This equates to a brand new bus entering our fleet every week and a half. This is the largest amount of new buses being purchased in our company’s 80 year history. This busy and exciting period represents a substantial modernization of our equipment along with our commitment to having America’s most modern fleet,” said Peter Picknelly, chairman and CEO of Peter Pan.
The new clean-diesel engine technology helps the coach reduce emissions and burn less fuel. The new bus models feature safety seat belts. Seat belts have been in Peter Pan buses for several years. Approximately 50 percent of the Peter Pan fleet is now seat belt equipped. Wheelchair lifts, wifi, power outlets, and a modern style restroom are also features on the new bus models.
