Is it possible to slow these big dump trucks down on Bates Rd.namely Rosati Trucking. Apparently they don’t understand that the speed limit on half the road is 30 m.p.h. is it going to take another horrible accident like what happened on Montgomery Rd.. There are at least six bus stops on this street. Not a lot as streets go but we don’t need another child killed. Thanks.
Good morning. One quick note on this years Run Westfield 5k. I believe that the decision to have the “walkers” participating this year move off of the road and onto the side walk about half way down Western Ave must not have been thought through. The horrible condition of those side walks made it nearly impossible for those pushing not only strollers but also wheel chairs. Enough so that the most difficult ones had to move back to the side of the road into oncoming traffic. Please wait 20 more min. before opening the roads back up so “everyone” that paid the entrance fee can enjoy what they signed up for. It is definitely a wonderful event.
To the people who use the ball field between Graylock, and Hubbard Sts. There was some destruction of city property this past week (Thursday about 2:30PM). While walking my dog, I discovered some prankster had damaged the grass at the back of the field with their version of artwork, and message. In conferring with others it is presumed to be a graduation prank. But, as a part of their art work there was also a swastika, about 3×3 foot. I notified the police dept., and due to the hour asked they relay the message to our Westfield Vocational Technical High School. The damage was done by applying some sort of substance on the grass, as a weed killer, that killed the grass over a large area to leave their message. I was angered for a couple of reasons. As Ward 3 City Councilor the damage to public property is wrong. The swastika is right where parents and grandparents come to watch their children pay baseball, and soccer, including guests from other communities, and their having to see this is also wrong. And, as veteran, to have this done right after Memorial Day also makes it very wrong. I am, however, very grateful to Principal Czaporowski and his team from the Horticultural Department for their rapid response to the situation. For, the next afternoon when I went there they were there assessing the situation and making plans to correct it. The offensive element had already been obscured. And, I want to thank the Westfield Police Dept., especially Officer Williams, who took my information for their response to this. And, I was informed that the act is being investigated and hopefully the cameras at WVTH were able to detect who did this. But, if there is anyone in that area who may have seen something, as the size of the damaged area must have taken some time to do, please contact Officer Williams, or the Westfield Police Dept.
