Since taking office I have heard from many constituents about the horrendous condition of East Mountain Road. As many of you know, East Mountain Road is an old farm road that was simply paved over and was never truly engineered to accommodate the traffic flow it handles today on a daily basis.
I have been committed to seeing that this major Westfield roadway be properly engineered and designed to handle today’s traffic needs as well as those in the future. I am happy to report that a contract for design work on this roadway has been awarded. This project will include upgrades to the drainage system as well as addressing other defects along the entire roadway. This is a very long overdue to project that is finally underway. The funding for this project will come from storm water management funds as well as federal and state funding.
Work continues on the acceptance of Papermill Road as a city Street. The legal Department is currently handling the review of deeds for all abutters. Once the road has been accepted as a city way then design and engineering work can begin.
A meeting to review all aspects of this project with the abutters on Papermill Road is being planned for April/May. More information will follow regarding exact time and location of this meeting.
With the New Year come new City Council committee assignments. Enclosed is a list of the committees as well as the names of the councilors serving on each committee.
