Hi folks, again to start with the positive…While out shopping I have noticed more people saying thank you and excuse me. I am seeing drivers waving on others to go first. While at Stop and Shop more customers are joining in and sharing my humoring those that work there.
It is said that crises bring out the best and worst in people; I am seeing a lot of the best. As well, drive by birthday greetings to people confined to their homes; entertainers online to make us smile; and they and athletes making major donations to help in this crisis. Sentimental/personal acts seemed to be restored versus have to give material ones. Oh yes, there are still those with the permanent scowls, and panic hoarders. But, I do understand them. So many have gone so long with the thinking: not my responsibility, and have given into: don’t get involved; think of yourself first and last, that we have lost that social connect that has been a vital part of the success of being Human. So, yes there does seem to be hope for us after all.
Oh, a quick rebuttal from my last City Council meeting to the guy who totally misunderstood my wanting to know about the status of our service people, especially due to large numbers being in places where the virus is strong. It was not, what the guy insinuated any kind of disrespect. In fact, it was a sincere concern. Only of late are we hearing about overseas and domestic military members becoming infected. Mass. is shutting down VA service facilities; and with the deaths of those at the Holyoke Veterans Hospital…I guess there was a good reason for what I said.
There is a lot that people can do now that we have a lot of spare time. With many families having all the adults working to pay the bills; you have chance to relearn parenting/family skills, and especially to get to know your children better. Another positive, in all the negatives, to take advantage of in your free time is to learn a new or upgrade your skills. As, regardless, there are going to be major business economic changes. Financial and government will be looking at re-stabilizing the economy. Use your skills and talents to open a small business. We will need them.
