Southwick accident claims Granby man

SOUTHWICK – A Granby, Conn. man was killed yesterday afternoon when he crashed his vehicle near 26 College Highway.
The initial investigation showed that the involved vehicle was travelling south on Rt. 10 when it departed the travelled portion of the road, struck a large rock and flipped over.
The motorist involved was found to be dead at the scene. The lone operator was identified as William T. Burgess, 91, of Granby.
The cause of this collision is currently under investigation by the Southwick Police and the Massachusetts State Police Collision Accident and Reconstruction Section. Officer Paul Miles is the Southwick investigating officer.
State Police Sgt. Thomas Ryan said the investigation is being led by Southwick Police.
“With regard to the fatal [accident], State Police are assisting in accident reconstruction,” Ryan said.
Traffic was rerouted until around 5 p.m., according to reports. The state medical examiner arrived on scene shortly before 4 p.m. to remove the body.
