WARWICK, RI – The Westfield High School team wrestling team improved its overall record to 19-7 with a solid showing at the Warwick, RI, dual meet Saturday.
Senior wrestler Brandon Affeldt (152 pounds) paved the way for Westfield with a 5-0 mark against some stiff competition. Affeldt has lost only three matches all season.
Bombers senior 126-pounder Dylan Theodorakis went 3-2. In one of those losses, Theodorakis wrestled three periods against one of the state’s top wrestlers for East Providence, a team which boasts a half-dozen New England qualifiers and four state champs.
“We had a great day of wrestling,” said Westfield coach Bob Coe.
Westfield blew out Ludlow 61-12, defeated Bishop Hendrickson 45-27, and escaped with a win over Exeter West Greenwich 33-30. The Bombers lost to Warwick Veterans HS 40-3, and fell to East Providence 56-6.
Juniors Chris Galvin and Kyle Nutting, seniors Joe Chambers and Ryan Lamagdeleine, sophomores Sean Donofrio and Sean Sullivan, and Dominic Liquori showed signs of improvement, Coe said.
“All of these guys are really stepping up,” the Bombers head coach explained. “They’re losing matches, but they’re all working really hard.”
