Alexander F. “Butch” Monczka

SOUTHWICK – Alexander F. “Butch” Monczka (1947-2024) quietly passed away on Sunday, January 7th, 2024 with his wife and family by his side. He was born December 30th, 1947 in Westfield to Alexander and Frances A. (Kuras) Monczka Grant. He grew up in Southwick and was a graduate of Southwick High School Class of 1965. He attended computer school in Hartford to become a computer programmer. He began his life of service enlisting in the US Air Force Reserves in November 1966 during the Vietnam era. Upon returning from the service, he was employed by Third National Bank as a computer programmer. He joined the Southwick Police Department and became a 3-year fulltime officer, then continued for 18 years as a reserve officer. He also served his town as a deputy tax collector and was a member of the emergency management agency. He was a past member of the West Springfield Mobile Police. He was an active parent serving on Boy Scout Troop 114 as treasurer/assistant. Alex was a founding member of the Knights of Columbus Council 11178 at Our Lady of the Lake Parish. He was a past Grand Knight, 4th Degree, as well as treasurer/secretary. He truly enjoyed organizing and putting on the various dinners the Knights did. Alex loved our summer trips to Salisbury Beach camping with the family, teaching his grandchildren cooking and photography, etc.

Alex is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Helen M. (Colson) Monczka, his children, son Alexander C. Monczka, daughters, Kimberly J. Monczka, Kristine M. Paulson and Karen L. Monczka, he leaves his grandchildren Nicholas Paulson, Xander Monczka, Logan Monczka, Alexandria Monczka, Kaitlin and Shaylin Paulson and one great-grandchild due in May. He also leaves brothers-in law, Wilfred Goneau and Raymond Frappier, sisters-in-law Dorothy Holmes (Gary), Barbara Lawor (John), Margaret Champagne (Edward) and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his siblings, William Monczka, Alice Wojcik, Irene Waniewski, Dorothy Goneau and Joanne Frappier Campagnari. He leaves his very special companions, Tasha and Brookie.

The family wished to thank the very caring and compassionate care given by his team at Beacon Hospice as well as the wonderful nursing staff at Mercy Medical Center.

Visiting hours will be Wednesday, January 17th, 4-7 p.m. at Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 18th, 2024 from Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield at 8:30 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. in Our Lady of the Lake Church, 224 Sheep Pasture Road, Southwick, MA 01077.
