WESTFIELD: Alice Mary Smithies, born August 8th, 1958, passed away unexpectedly at Baystate Medical Center on Wednesday, April 28th, 2021 at the young age of 62.
She is survived by her soulmate, best friend and lifelong partner, William J. Smithies, Sr. Alice and Bill met in 1973 and married in 1978 spending the last 48 beautiful and unforgettable years together. She leaves behind her 3 children: William Smithies, Jr. and his wife Lindsay, David Smithies and his wife Marissa, and Laura Smithies and her fiancé Matthew Detka. She leaves behind the most important part of her life, her five grandchildren: Sophia Rose, Caleb William, Scarlett Loren, Michael David, and Jax Thomas. She is predeceased by her brother Gregory and survived by her siblings Cathy Federici, Peter Storozuk, Jeannie Belanger, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
Alice’s entire life, love and joy was her family; she was the matriarch and glue that held her family together. She was loved by all as she gave her heart to the world. She has spent over 25 years taking care of her work family at Total Women’s Health Care where she was known as “Mama Bear”. She looked forward to Sunday dinners, as family and friends would gather every week. She loved to see everyone together. She looked forward to every moment she spent with family whether it be facetime calls with the grandchildren, sports games, shopping with her sisters, daughter and niece, to sleepovers, birthday parties, babysitting, and being on vacation with her family and friends. She was an amazing woman who made such an impact on every person she ever met. She will continue to bring a smile to our faces with all the wonderful memories. She will truly be missed by all.
Alice will be laid to rest at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Westfield on Wednesday, May 5th, 2021 at 9:00am. All family and friends are welcome.
