WILMINGTON, NC – Anne Marie (Moore) Cousineau, 85, (1938-2024) passed away peacefully on June 14th, 2024 at her assisted living apartment in Wilmington, NC. She was born on November 8, 1938 in Westfield, Massachusetts to parents Edward J. Moore and Anna (Oleksak) Moore. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Vincent P. Cousineau, Sr., and her brother, Edward Moore. She is survived by her children Laurette Carle (Jay), Claire Bennett (Matt Spinazzola), and Vincent P. Cousineau, Jr. (Larry); her grandchildren, William R. Smith and Matthew W. Bennett; five nieces and nephews; and many cousins and dear friends.
After graduating from St. Mary’s High School in 1956, she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Education at Westfield State College. She taught junior high school English before staying home to raise her three children. She spent many years teaching preschool and then substitute teaching in public elementary and middle schools. Later, she worked as a bookkeeper for various businesses and as a manager of a food pantry. Anne volunteered in many schools, churches, and community organizations where she lived in Westfield, MA (through 1980), Old Saybrook, CT (1980-2004), and Wilmington, NC (2004 to present). She was an active member of book clubs and the League of Women Voters. In addition to serving her community no matter where she lived, she was an avid gardener achieving master gardener status when she moved to Wilmington. She involved her grandsons and her daughter Claire to share the joy of growing beautiful things. In her recent living communities, she enjoyed gathering with her friends for cards, meals, and laughter. But her greatest love remained her husband of 51 years and her family.
Family and friends are invited to a funeral service to be held at 11 a.m. on June 19th at Church of the Servant, 4925 Oriole Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403. In lieu of flowers, donations of remembrance can be made to Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard and/or Lower Cape Fear LifeCare Hospice, both in Wilmington, NC.
