Another armed robbery

WESTFIELD – A second armed robbery in less than a week occurred when a city motel was robbed at gunpoint Saturday evening by a thief who fled with almost $200.
Police report that a caller from the Quality Inn, 2 Southampton Rd., reported at 10:50 p.m. Saturday that a man robbed her at gunpoint and fled with almost $200.
Capt. Michael McCabe said that the man walked into the motel at 2 Southampton Road and brandished a handgun but did not actually point it at the clerk. McCabe said initially “she actually thinks he’s joking” but, when the man assured her that he was serious, she gave him the cash on hand, almost $200.
The victim described the robber as a man whose head and face were hidden by the hooded sweatshirt he was wearing.
The other robbery took place at Quick Food, a convenience store at the intersection of Tannery and Southwick roads, which was robbed by a gunman on Monday, Sept. 10.

Westfield police detectives are currently investigating both incidents.
