WEST SPRINGFIELD – Area residents who may want to buy or sell coins – or just find out what that old coin is worth – will have a convenient opportunity on Sunday when the West Springfield Coin Club stages its semi-annual coin show at the Dante Club at 1198 Memorial Drive, West Springfield.
The club has staged a coin show at the social club in the spring and fall every year since 1988 to serve as a resource for local coin collectors and hobbyists and to raise funds for the club’s operating expenses.
Visitors to the show can expect to find about 15 vendors who will not only buy and sell coins and other collectibles but will also offer free appraisals.
Previous participants who were mailed a reminder of the upcoming show should bring their postcards to redeem for a random pick from a group of vintage U.S. coins.
A raffle will also be offered and light refreshments will be available.
The show will begin at 9:30 a.m. will continue until about 3 p.m. Entry, and parking at the Dante Club, is free.
The coin club meets monthly, with a summer hiatus during July and August, at 7 p.m. at the Church of the Good Shepard, 214 Elm St., in West Springfield. The meetings are generally staged on the second Sunday of the month.
The meetings prior to the summer break will be on May 19 and June 9 at 7 p.m.
At each meeting, a program about a specific aspect of coin collecting is offered after the club’s business is conducted.
Following a social break, a small number of coins are offered to the members and guests at an auction.
Persons with interest in the coin show or the coin club may call the club’s president, Peter Setian, at (413) 596 9771 for more information.
