Arthur F. Cataw

WESTFIELD – Arthur F. “Bud” Cataw, 93, died Monday, October 29, 2012 at the Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke. Born in Springfield on September 5, 1919, he was the son of the late Arthur & Anna (Donavan) Cataw.
Bud was a 1936 graduate of Classical High School and attended R.P.I. prior to being called into military service. He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army 29th Division, Infantry Division, during WWII and also during the Korean War in the 1st Calvary Division. Bud received numerous commendations including three Purple Hearts, the Presidential Unit Citation (3 times), the Bronze Star and the Croix de Guerre of France. He later worked for many years as Chief Accountant and Treasurer for Holyoke Street & Railway. He was a member of the K. of C., Fairview Council, #4044, the 4th Degree Honor Guard #2670, the American Legion #438, and the Holyoke Elks #902.
Bud is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Florence (Carey) Cataw; a son, Arthur Cataw and wife Joyce of Lady Lake, FL; a daughter, Linda Hoynoski and husband Chester of Westfield; two step-sons, Robert Duffy and wife Cheryl of Westfield, W. Alan Duffy and wife Joan of South Hadley; a step-daughter, Elisabeth “Nicki” Fugiel of Westfield, as well as 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Gertrude Maroon.
A Funeral Mass for Bud will be celebrated on Wednesday, November 7, at 12 noon at St. Patrick’s Church, Main Street, South Hadley with Committal Services to follow in the Mass. Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Agawam at 2:00 p.m. Calling Hours for Bud will be on Wednesday morning from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb Street, South Hadley.
