GRANVILLE – A horse escaped from a stable on Main Road Saturday night and has been missing since.
According to Sgt. Patrick Winslow of the Granville Police Department, officers observed a horse in the middle of Main Road at around 9:30 pm Saturday evening. Tayler Rayner, the owner of the horse, said that the horse named Storm got spooked by something and busted through the fence of the stable.
After going through the fence, Storm continued down Rt. 57 and was struck by a vehicle from behind near Nestrovich Orchard but got up immediately and ran into the orchard.
Since the horse has been missing, residents of Granville and surrounding towns have been looking for it. The last sighting of Storm was around 5 p.m. on Sunday on Water Street.
Notified by members of the community, Granby Animal Control Officer Jennifer Kershaw is assisting with the situation and was out for over five hours on Monday looking for the horse. Kershaw is hopeful the horse will be found again but knows it won’t be easy in such a rural area.
“I was hoping there would be more sightings,” said Kershaw. “There’s a lot of woods to cover and this horse is skittish.”
Rayner mentioned that Storm is brown with white paint spots and was wearing a gray fly mask.
If anyone has seen Storm, please contact the Granville Police Department at 413-357-8572, or the Granby Police Department at 860-844-5335.
