SOUTHWICK—Barbara J. (Leighton) Koivisto, 74, of Southwick passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 21, 2014 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 18, 1940 in Westfield, MA to the late Edward F. and Nettie E. Leighton. She was a graduate of Chester High School and a long time resident of Southwick. She worked for the Southwick Tolland Granville school system as the Secretary in the Student Services Department until her retirement in 2002 after which she worked as the Secretary at the Southwick Congregational Church. Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 56 years William A. Koivisto, 3 sons, William Jr., Barry and Bradley and his wife Kathleen, a daughter Brenda. She also leaves 6 grandchildren, Thomas, Kerry and Eric O’Dea, Barry, Julie and Katie Koivisto, her brother Edward F. Leighton, Jr. and his wife Patricia and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Barbara will be held at the Southwick Congregational Church on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11:00 am. Burial in Pine Hill Cemetery, Chester, MA will be private. There are no calling hours. Southwick-Forastiere Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
