SOUTHWICK – The Southwick Fire Department is hosting a benefit dinner for one of their own on October 13 at the Southwick Recreation Center.
Ed Thibault, who retired after 21 years of service as a firefighter with the Southwick Fire Department, was rushed to the hospital on June 6 after having a sudden cardiac episode. While hospitalized for 10 days, Thibault’s wife took time off from work to help care for her husband but the rising medical bills became tough on the couple.
“He’s making progress every day,” said Southwick firefighter Mike Dennis, who’s helping organize the event. “Medical bills can go through the roof.”
Dennis went on to say that Thibault is having a positive recovery, currently doing physical therapy.
Thibault has still been involved with the Southwick Fire Department after his retirement, attending department events and fundraisers.
“He’s a great guy,” said Dennis. “He’s still very active in the community.”
The benefit dinner will start at at 4 p.m. and feature music, raffles, and a cash bar. Tickets cost $20 and are free for kids under eight-years-old. For those interested in purchasing tickets, they can do so by calling Dennis at 413-433-6453. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Donations to Thibault can be made at the event or if people are unable to attend, checks can be made payable to Ed Thibault or to the Southwick Fire Association and put Ed Thibault in the memo.
