WEST BROOKFIELD, MA: Betty Markham passed away peacefully on February 5th, 2022 at the young age of 93.
On October 2, 1928, Betty was born the eighth of ten children born to Gustav and Isabel Carlson. She was quite proud of their Swedish roots and farming in general. She is survived by her brother, Donald and Blanch Carlson of Ware, MA, and sister, Shirley Duga of Belchertown, MA.
Betty was the proud mother to her sons Donald and Linda Markham of Georgia, and Fred and Deb Markham of New Hampshire, and daughters Debbie Kuffel of New Hampshire, and Melanie and Robert Tyack of Massachusetts. She was preceded by sons, Richard, who died as an infant, William Markham and wife Irene, and her husband Frederick Markham.
Betty was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 28+ great-grandchildren. She will also be fondly remembered and missed by many relatives and friends.
Betty enjoyed playing cards and the outdoors. She was the matriarch of the Markham family and will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Her loving family is planning burial services held in the Spring at the Hardwick Cemetery. The date will be provided to loving family and friends when available.
In place of flowers, the family is asking for a donation to the Spina Bifida Association in the name of Richard Markham. Richard passed away as an infant of spina bifida, and Betty was deeply affected by this.
