Area Students Named to Siena College Honors Lists
LOUDONVILLE, NY – Please disregard the Dean’s List story sent to you on March 7. It inadvertently included students on both the Dean’s List and President’s List. We apologize for the error. A corrected story follows:
Siena College names local students to its Fall 2013 Honors Lists:
Emma Ciborowski, a biology major from Westfield was named to the President’s List.
Lauren Grenier, a psychology major from Southwick was named to the Dean’s List.
Danielle Charette of Westfield Spends College Spring Break Volunteering
STANDISH, ME – For 22 years, groups of Saint Joseph’s College students have dedicated their spring break to weeklong service projects. This year, more than 30 of our students participated in service trips to:
Martin, Ky., to participate in the Christian Appalachian Project, which focuses on building and renovating houses;
Westchester County, N.Y., to help build safe and affordable housing with Habitat for Humanity, and to continue delivering aid to victims of Hurricane Sandy;
Philadelphia, Pa., at Blessed Sarnelli Community, to assist the community center with its needs of food, clothing, warmth, and friendship, as well as working with Mercy Neighborhood Ministries and Project Home;
Vanceburg, Ky., at Glenmary Farms to help build and renovate needed community projects.

Westfield Resident Inducted into Honor Society
SALEM – Victoria E. Cortis of Westfield was recently inducted into the Salem State University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta. Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes academic excellence in first year college students and encourages superior academic achievement among students in their first year of college.
William Hess Receives Degree from Western New England University
SPRINGFIELD- William E. Hess of Westfield received a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering degree from Western New England University on February 14, 2014. Hess graduated Cum Laude. This honor signifies scholastic excellence and is awarded at graduation to students who have achieved a grade point average between 3.30 and 3.60.
Grobe inducted
AMHERST – Zachary Grobe, son of Deborah and Carl Grobe of Westfield, will be inducted into the Nu Chapter of Phi Beta Kappa at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in May of 2014. Phi Beta Kappa honors recent graduates and current juniors and seniors who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in the humanities and fine arts, natural sciences and mathematics, and social and behavioral sciences. Founded in 1776, it is the most prestigious national honor society recognizing excellence at the undergraduate level. The chapter at the university was founded in 1963. Grobe is a member of the Class of 2015 and expects to graduate with a degree with a degree in English. He graduated from Westfield High School in 2011.
Jay Poulin of Westfield Named to Dean’s List at Becker College
WORCESTER, – Jay Poulin of Westfiel was named to the Becker College Dean’s List for fall 2013.
Andrew Lambert spends spring break on concert tour of Europe
MANCHESTER, NH – Saint Anselm College student and Westfield resident, Andrew Lambert, a senior communication major, traveled with the college choir during spring break to perform in churches throughout central Europe.
The group’s musical tour included stops in Budapest, Hungary; Bratislava, Slovakia; Prague, Czech Republic; and Berlin, Germany where they performed concerts and sang at Mass. They also toured Benedictine Abbey of Pannonhalma Archabbey in Hungary and other historic sites.
The group of twenty-nine students was accompanied by alumnus and assistant to the choir director, Robert Aldrich ’01 and choir director, Fr.Bede Camera, O.S.B.
“The overarching purpose for the trip is to give students the opportunity to explore historic places in Europe and sing in front of European audiences,” says Choir Director Fr. Bede Camera, O.S.B. “It is an enriching experience for all of us, each taking something personal and meaningful in his or her own way.”
Previous choir groups have performed in cities such as Vienna, Prague, Rome, Zurich, and Paris.
Elmira College Students Named to Dean’s List for Academic Achievement for the Fall 2013 Term
ELMIRA, NY – Elmira College has released its Dean’s List for Academic Achievement for the Fall 2013 Term. The Dean’s List recognizes students that have a grade point average of 3.6 or higher. Haley Armstrong of Westfield is currently studying Speech and Language Disabilities.

BATON ROUGE, LA – The following local residents recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation’s oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines.

These residents are among approximately 32,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors, having at least 72 semester hours, are eligible for membership. Graduate students in the top 10 percent of the number of candidates for graduate degrees may also qualify, as do faculty, professional staff, and alumni who have achieved scholarly distinction.
Founded in 1897 at the University of Maine and headquartered in Baton Rouge, La., Phi Kappa Phi is the nation’s oldest and most selective all-discipline honor society. The Society has chapters on more than 300 college and university campuses in North America and the Philippines. Its mission is “To recognize and promote academic excellence in all fields of higher education and to engage the community of scholars in service to others.”

NEWTON – Emily Kochanek of Westfield has earned Dean’s List status for the 2013 Fall semester at Lasell College. A member of the Class of 2015, Kochanek is majoring in Communication.
Sara Roberts of Granville has earned Dean’s List status for the 2013 Fall semester at Lasell College. A member of the Class of 2014, Roberts is majoring in Communication.
Westfield Resident Sara Wailgum on Lasell College Dean’s List
Sara Wailgum of Westfield has earned Dean’s List status for the 2013 Fall semester at Lasell College. A member of the Class of 2017, Wailgum is majoring in Fashion Communication and Promotion.
Samuel Klippel of Auckland named to Worcester Academy Headmaster’s List
WORCESTER – Worcester Academy proudly announces the Honor Roll and Headmaster’s List for the Second Trimester of the 2013-2014 School Year. The honor represents the achievements that each student has earned through academic excellence, challenge, and personal growth.
