BOSTON- Senate Minority Leader Bruce Tarr (R-Gloucester) has re-appointed Senator Don Humason (R-2nd Hampden & Hampshire District) to the Senate Ways and Means Committee, where Humason will serve for his second consecutive term.
The Senate Ways and Means Committee is responsible for considering all matters relating to the finances of the Commonwealth and related matters that may be referred to the Committee.
Tarr also appointed Humason to the following Senate Standing Committees:
– Senate Committee on BondingCapital Expenditures and State Assets (Ranking Republican member):
Considers all matters concerning state lands, state buildings, the review of all legislation providing for the giving, loaning or pledging of the credit of the Commonwealth. The committee shall be responsible for evaluating such legislation and determining the appropriateness of enacting new legislation containing increased bond authorizations for the Commonwealth.
– Senate Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs:
Identifies federal funding opportunities for the Commonwealth.
Additionally, Humason was appointed to serve on the following Joint Committees:
– Joint Committee on Children, Families and Persons with Disabilities: Considers all matters concerning child welfare, juvenile justice, public welfare, and children and adults with physical, developmental intellectual disabilities. It is the committee’s responsibility to oversee the Departments of Children and Families, Developmental Services, Transitional Assistance and Youth Services as well as the Massachusetts Commissions for the Blind, the Commission on Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and the Massachusetts Rehabilitation Commission.
– Joint Committee on Education:
Considers all matters concerning education (through grade 12).
– Joint Committee on Public Service:
Considers all matters concerning the salaries, civil service and retirement of public employees (including the retirement of judges, court personnel and county employees but excluding the salaries of said judges, court personnel and county employees), collective bargaining for state employees and other public employees.
– Joint Committee on Veterans and Federal Affairs:
Reviews all legislation having to do with veterans and affairs dealing with the federal government.

I am especially eager to use my positions on these key committees to the benefit of my constituents in western Massachusetts.”
Humason was re-elected to the state Senate for a second term in November 2014 to represent the 2nd Hampden and Hampshire District which consists of the cities of Agawam, Easthampton, Holyoke and Westfield, parts of the city of Chicopee, and the towns of Granville, Tolland, Montgomery, Russell, Southampton, and Southwick.
Representative Nicholas A. Boldyga (R-Southwick) has also been named to the powerful House Ways and Means committee. House Minority Leader Brad Jones Jr. (R-North Reading) announced the committee assignments after a formal session of the House of Representatives.
“I am honored to be appointed to the Ways and Means committee and look forward to being able to serve the constituents in my district, and across the Commonwealth, to bring fiscal responsibility to the budget process.” Boldyga said. “I look forward to working with my fellow committee colleagues in a bipartisan manner to put forward a balanced budget that will promote job growth, sustain local aid, and ensure that Western Massachusetts receives it’s fair share of budget resources.”
“With his extensive private sector experience working as an auditor in the financial sector, Representative Boldyga has a clear understanding of what it takes to balance a budget, and that knowledge will serve him well as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee,” said Jones. “Representative Boldyga will also bring a sense of balance to the committee by advocating for the needs and interests of Western Massachusetts. I am confident he will do a tremendous job for his district and the Commonwealth as a whole by promoting fiscal discipline and working to ensure that the state is not spending beyond its means.”
The House Ways and Means committee is tasked with considering all legislation affect¬ing the finances of the Commonwealth. Boldyga also serves on the Bonding Committee which considers all matters providing for the giving, loaning or pledging of the credit of the Commonwealth.
