SOUTHWICK – The Board of Selectmen approved a re-issuance of a Class II used car sales license this week.
The license was re-issued to Wendy and Gary Gaunt for the business located at 624 College Highway.
The couple took over the business last August after receiving approval from the Planning Board.
During a July, 2014 Planning Board meeting, the Gaunts said they had no plans to change the site and would mainly do repairs at Gaunt Performance and Automotive.
Board Chairman Joseph Deedy asked if they would still stick to a 25-car maximum and asked if there would be any improvements.
“We will never exceed 25,” Gary Gaunt said.
The business owners plan to purchase a new sign, make improvements to the driveway, and add landscaping.
Selectman Russell Fox, who said he owns a business next door, spoke in favor of the license.
Also during the same meeting, Department of Public Works Director Randy Brown requested approval of the town contract with the Springfield Water Works.
Brown said it was basically an extension of the existing contract.
Selectmen asked Brown if he foresaw a decline in reliance on Springfield water.
“We have a chlorination system that should be up and running soon,” said Brown. “That will drastically reduce what we use.”
Brown said there were a few residents near the pump station that would continue to draw water directly from Springfield. Once the town is less reliant on Springfield, it should save money.
“Our bill will be cut down quite a bit,” he said.
