HUNTINGTON – A Waste Management truck snagged some low hanging wires on a routine disposal pickup at 25 Russell Road in downtown Huntington mid-day Wednesday, pulling over a telephone pole. A line shorted out against a neighboring tree, blowing a fuse and causing the tree to catch fire.

Five buildings on Route 20 in Huntington lost power. Firefighters had to wait until all power was turned off before cutting the limb off the tree. Nobody was hurt, and power was restored by 2 p.m. to all residences except the multi-family home where the accident occurred, which required house repairs. The telephone pole was also replaced.
