WESTFIELD – Charges including inducing a minor into prostitution and rape of a child previously filed in March against an 18-year-old city woman were dropped Friday.
In a court document filed in March to support a criminal complaint against Brianne E. Barra, 18, of 116 Montgomery St., Det. Juanita Mejias alleges that the defendant provided a 15-year-old classmate beer, marijuana and cocaine before she offered the other girl an opportunity to “make some money” and arranged a sexual encounter for her with “a guy’.
Barra was arraigned in Westfield District Court on charges of rape of a child, paying for sexual conduct with a child younger than 18 years-of-age, inducing a minor to prostitution and deriving support from child prostitution. She was released on $1,000 cash bail.
On Friday, Assistant District Attorney Carrie M. Russell advised Judge William Rota, sitting in Westfield District Court, that the Commonwealth wouldn’t prosecute the charges.
Russell wrote “after a thorough review of all available information regarding the involved parties, the Commonwealth has concluded that the interests of justice dictate that prosecution not proceed.”
