RUSSELL – Charles A. Auclair, Sr., 82, (1939-2022) passed away on Monday, May 9, 2022, at Baystate Noble Hospital. He was born in Hartford, CT to the late Arthur and Eugenie (Descouteaux) Auclair. Charles served in the United States Navy from 1959-1963 as a Machinists Mate 2nd Class on the U.S.S. Sea Poacher submarine. He worked for the former Digital, and Moore Tooling before going to work for Hazen Paper as an industrial engineer, retiring after twenty-five years. Charles was a devoted Catholic and attended Mass every morning before work. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus and Holyoke Elks Lodge. Charles enjoyed spending winters in Central Florida and watching the Boston Red Sox.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Bernice J. (Slater) Auclair of Russell, his loving children, Charles A. Auclair, II and his wife Deborah Lacy of Kirkland, WA, Cathleen A. Reynolds and her husband Steven, of Westfield, Christopher A. Auclair and his wife JoAnne of Blandford and Christian A. Auclair and his wife Sara of Westfield, his cherished eight grandchildren, Steven II, Michael, Matthew, Alexander, Ava, Charlie, Sean, and Kellye, and his four great-grandchildren, Steven III, Giulia, Emilia and Ceilia.
He was predeceased by his sister Marietta Jernigan.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Charles on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at 10 AM at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church, 127 Holyoke Rd., Westfield, MA 01085, with Military Honors to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations in Charles’ memory may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Attn: Memorial and Honor Program, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-1905.
