Charles D. Nitsch

SOUTHWICK – Charles “Charlie” Danielson Nitsch, age 57, of Southwick passed away on Tuesday, January 22 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by loving family and friends. He was born August 27, 1961 (“The happiest day of my Mother’s life!”) to the late Edward H. and Dorothy V. Nitsch. He was a 1979 graduate of Southwick High School where he was voted Most Popular and Most Friendly in his class. Charlie was King of the Prom and received an award for being the most valuable member of the track and field team where he went undefeated in the shotput and held the school record in the discus. He attended Westfield State College and worked at Micro Abrasives in Westfield. Charlie was a lifelong resident of Southwick. Charlie was the life of every party! He could tell jokes and make puns to make everyone smile and laugh. Charlie was known for his kindness and generosity. He made everyone feel special. If you rode on his pontoon boat on Congamond Lakes, you were treated to a wonderful, fun-filled time. Charlie enjoyed playing cards at the VFW and American Legion. He especially enjoyed making dinner and playing cards with his father and brothers every Tuesday night for many years. Charlie had a HUGE personality, a HUGE heart and a HUGE number of friends. He will leave a hole in everyone’s heart. He leaves two sisters, Nancy Mackinney and husband Tom of Newbury, MA, and Judith Nitsch of Weston, MA; four brothers, Eric Nitsch and wife Melanie of Westfield, MA, Arthur Nitsch and wife Karen of Bellbrook, OH, Edward Nitsch and Jeffrey Nitsch both of Southwick; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins. The calling hours will take place from 3:00PM-7:00PM on Friday January 25, 2019 at the Southwick Forastiere Family Funeral Home, 624 College Highway, Southwick. The funeral service will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday January 26, 2019 in the Southwick Congregational Church, 488 College Highway, Southwick. Burial will be in the Spring in the New Southwick Cemetery, Southwick.
