HONESDALE, PA – Christopher J. Hartman, Sr., 88, of Honesdale, PA passed away July 11, 2016 at Bethany Village, Bethany, PA. He was born in Honesdale and was the son of the late Jacob Earl Hartman and Elsie Baker Hartman. In his early days, Christopher ran the family farm in Carley Brook, PA, raising dairy cows. After leaving farming, he took up carpentry and became skilled at creating various items. He was then hired by the Pennsylvania Highway Department where he operated heavy machinery and plowed the roads in the winter. Christopher retired in 1989 and devoted most of his time to his garden, workshop, birds, and flowers. He was predeceased by his wife, Louise Bates, in 2007, and by his brothers Charles and Orvis Hartman, and his sister Marion Bayly. He is survived by his children: Christopher J. Hartman, Jr. and his wife, Patricia of Southampton, MA; Steven A. Hartman and his wife, Jennifer, of Westfield, MA; Donna F. Santorelli and her husband, Rick, of Dunedin, FL; and Thomas L. Hartman of Lake Charles, LA. He leaves behind nine grandchildren: Laura and Kelly; Melissa and Tracy; Tawny and Billy; and Jacqueline, Kelsey, and Cadence. He also leaves four great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on July 15th at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale, PA. Internment was at the Smith Hill Cemetery in Honesdale, PA. He will be missed by his family.
