WESTFIELD- Police have issued a warrant for a local jeweler who is accused of stealing customers’ property valued between $5,000 to $10,000.
On November 11, a larceny was reported in the police logs at 11:16 a.m. regarding Marek Jewelers, located at 82 Main Street, stating, “this is an ongoing investigation.”
On Wednesday, Westfield Police Capt. Michael McCabe said the department has requested a warrant for the arrest of the store’s owner, Scott Marek, of 51 Kimberly Drive in Enfield, Connecticut.
Customers brought in items to be repaired or to be sold on consignment, but their items were not getting fixed nor eturned, nor were they receiving money for items that may have been sold, McCabe said.
So far, there are six separate counts of larceny over $250 with the cases dating back to February, he said.
“Marek is the nephew of the original owner, George Marek, who owned the shop for a long, long time,” McCabe added.
McCabe said he tried calling Marek on behalf of one of the victims but Marek was not calling back.
The phone number to the Westfield store appears to be out of service with an operator stating, “we are unable to complete your call at this time. Please try again later.”
The shop was closed on Wednesday, with a handwritten sign saying, “re-opening Wednesday November 11.”
Several notes have been left by customers, two notes regarding a blue topaz bracelet, one saying, “it means so much to me. It’s from my grandkids.”
Another note says, “trying to retrieve my diamond.”
An email was sent to Marek Jewelers in Enfield, Connecticut. Ray Marek responded to the email by leaving a voice mail message saying, “We have no relationship with him (Scott Marek) at all. This is a separate business.”
According to connecticutcorps.com, the principals of Marek Jewelers in Enfield are listed as Scott M. Marek of 51 Kimberly Drive and Raymond J. Marek of East Granby.
The Facebook page for Marek Jewelers in Enfield says it is a “family business.”

On July 15, Scott Marek, 55, of 51 Kimberly Drive was charged with “3rd-degree assault, 2nd-degree breach of peace, 2nd-degree unlawful restraint, possession of more than a half-ounce but less than four ounces of a controlled substance, 6th-degree larceny and interfering with an emergency call,” according to the enfieldsource.com.
Additionally, Scott Marek of 51 Kimberly Drive was charged in November 2014 with 6th-degree larceny, in connection with a larceny call at Matt’s Sports Cards, according to the Enfield Source.
The clerk at Westfield District Court said on Wednesday that Marek’s file was not available to the public yet since he has not been arrested nor arraigned.
