WESTFIELD – A city man is in critical condition at Baystate Medical Center after a single vehicle roll-over accident on Montgomery Road shortly after noon Sunday.
Police report that a caller notified the dispatcher of the accident at 12:55 p.m. and advised that the vehicle had struck a utility pole.
Both firefighters and police were dispatched to the accident scene and the firefighters report that when they arrived the victim, subsequently identified as Richard R. Brazee II, 57, of 19 Lockhouse Road, was in the process of extricating himself from the vehicle which had rolled on to its side.
Officer Charles Kielbasa was the first police officer to arrive and reports that the northbound vehicle had crossed the roadway and traveled 114 feet on the shoulder before impacting a utility pole which snapped in three places. The vehicle rotated and came to rest on the passenger side facing the direction it had come from.
Brazee was transported to Baystate Medical Center by fire department ambulance where he was treated and admitted. He was reported to be in critical condition this morning.
The G&E was notified and a crew was dispatched to replace the broken pole. Kielbasa reports the roadway was closed while the pole was replaced.
