John J. Smith, 64, of 4 Bates St., Westfield, was released upon payment of $100 cash bail pending an Oct. 4 hearing after he was arraigned on charges of operating motor vehicle without a license in his possession, speeding at a rate exceeding the posted limit, operating a motor vehicle without a valid inspection sticker, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, possession of an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle and operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of liquor brought by State Police.
Nicholas J. Matthews, 29, of 8 W. Silver St., Westfield, submitted to facts sufficient to warrant a guilty finding for a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon brought by Westfield police and the charge was continued without a finding with probation for 18 months.
