Westfield Vocational Technical High School Celebrates Career and Technical Education Month
Students and faculty at Westfield Vocational Technical High School will join others across the nation during the month of February to celebrate National Career and Technical Education (CTE) MonthTM.  This year’s theme is Career and Technical Education Works! CTE MonthTM provides programs across the country an opportunity to demonstrate how CTE educates students to be college and career ready and prepares them for high-wage, high demand career fields. Our school has planned daily activities to celebrate CTE MonthTM from February 11 – February 15.
The weeklong celebration kicks off on Monday, February 11 and Tuesday, February 12 with WVTHS tours for students from North and South Middle Schools.  Our Annual Open House will be held on Wednesday, February 13 from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. and is open to prospective students as well as members of the local community. Please stop by, we would love to show you all the good work that goes on here.  On Thursday, February 14 at 12:30 p.m., we will host our career-technical program induction ceremony for freshmen and sophomore students and their parents.  We are offering tours of our programs to local businesses from 7:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. on Friday, February 15, and our students also will be visiting classrooms at Highland Elementary School to promote literacy and to talk about their CTE program experiences.  The activities planned over the week will illustrate the rigor and relevance CTE courses offer our students.
Since 1911, the City of Westfield has recognized career and technical education as an integral part of its public school system. Today, CTE is a major part of the solution to myriad national economic and workforce problems, such as high school dropout rates, a weakened economy, and global competitiveness.  At a time when job opportunity is so critical, CTE programs in every community are ensuring students are adequately equipped with the skills to successfully enter the workforce.
Westfield’s support of this valuable form of education is best exemplified by our modern career technical education facility which meets industry standards and is staffed by certified and professional personnel.  By partnering with local business and the community, our CTE programs are investing in students’ lives with the latest technology and skills that will prepare them to become successful employees as well as future leaders.
