WESTFIELD – Daniel B. Darling, 87, a lifelong resident of Westfield, passed away on January 29, 2023 at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield. He was born on December 5, 1935 to the late Charles E. and Mary Louise (Hescock) Darling. He attended Westfield Trade High School, worked for many years as a licensed electrician for the IBEW Local 7 and worked for the Noble Hospital Maintenance Department. Dan served for 8 years in the Westfield Air National Guard.
In the fall of 1960, his sister introduced him to Ruth Dewey and his life was changed forever. By Christmas they were engaged and on May 6, 1961, they were married. They spent the next 62 years together. They were both avid outdoorsmen and Dan was an expert marksman. They spent much of their time in the woods of Granville, hiking, hunting, and fishing. Dan loved bowling and had a passion for motorcycles. He was a long-distance runner and participated in a number of marathons.
Dan leaves his wife, Ruth, his nephews Charles L. Darling and his wife Ann, Martin Darling, Steven Darling and his wife Tracy, David Darling, Paul Darling, Richard Wielgus and niece Sheila (Mulcahy) Wood.
Along with his parents, Charlie and Lou, Dan was predeceased by his brothers Robert M. Darling and Charles Henry Darling; by his sister Gloria (Darling) Wielgus; by his brothers-in-law Robert Dewey, Richard Dewey, Raymond Dewey, Arthur Wolfe, and Charles Wolfe; by his sister-in-law Barbara (Wolfe) Emerson; by his nephew William Mulcahy; and by his aunt Grace (Darling) Stockdale.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any charity that benefits animals or a charity of your choice. Calling hours will be Sunday, February 12th at 12:00 PM followed by a funeral service at 1:30 PM at Firtion Adams Funeral Service, 76 Broad Street, Westfield, MA. Burial will be private later in the spring.
