WESTFIELD- Daniel Charles Collins, 68, 1947-2015 passed away peacefully on July 20, 2015.
Danny was born on June 27, 1947 in Westfield, MA; the son of the late Charles F. and Lydia (Symancyk) Collins. He was a resident of the Guidewire Group Home in Westfield, where he enjoyed the company of his great friends and roommates Joe, Andy and Mike; and the staff members who were all his extended family. He attended the very first class for children with developmental disabilities in Westfield. As he got older, Danny attended the Dayhab Program at BARACO Corporation in West Springfield. BARACO and Guidewire provided him with many opportunities and experiences which enriched his life.
Danny has left a wonderful memory that will be cherished by his sister, Winnie Sumner and her husband, Jack of Granby, CT, their daughter, Tracy Sesselberg, her husband, Hank and their two daughters, Meryl and Alemenesh, all of Cape Elizabeth, ME; their son, Brian Sumner, his wife Catriona and their two sons, Robie and Caden, all of Pownal, ME; three aunts, many cousins, and extended family.
Danny’s family will always be grateful to Jeanny Chalas and Nichole Hendrix and the loving Guidewire Group Home staff; Kelly Allyn and her caring staff at BARACO Corporation, West Springfield; and finally to Dr. Eric Lao, MD. Each of you have contributed to making Danny’s life, a “truly wonderful life”. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, July 25, 2015, in the South Congregational Church, 242 Salmon Brook St. (Route 202/10) Granby, CT.
(the church will open at 10:00AM). Danny will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Pine Hill Cemetery, Westfield. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Guidewire Incorporated, attention: Residents’ Vacation Fund, 551 East Columbus Ave., Springfield, MA 01105.
