Daniel D. Hartley

EASTHAMPTON – Daniel Hartley, 48, (1968-2016)  passed away peacefully on Saturday May 21, 2016 surrounded by his loving family.   Daniel was born on January 21, 1968 in Westfield, son of George and Janet (Hiersche) Hartley.   Dan was raised in Westfield and was a graduate of Westfield High School and later graduated from STCC with an Associates Degree in Landscape Design and Management. Dogwood

Dan and his three brothers launched their family business, Hartley Bros. Landscaping, Inc. during high school. Originally conceived as a lawn mowing service, the company grew exponentially over the next 32 years. Today the business provides professional landscape design, installation and construction services to clients throughout the Pioneer Valley and beyond.

Dan’s favorite place to spend his free time was in the White Mountains of New Hampshire. Whether snowmobiling in the winter, or swimming in the summer, the family camp in Tamworth was his home away from home. Dan was an accomplished cook and enjoyed researching and trying new recipes or fine tuning old favorites.

Dan was tremendously proud of his daughter Kristin. He loved to share his appreciation of nature and horticulture with her, often teaching her the botanical names of plants, trees and shrubs as they wandered through a forest or meandered through a local college campus. He encouraged her to pursue her dream of a career in science, math or engineering, and looked forward to watching those dreams come to fruition.

Besides his parents George and Janet (Hiersche) Hartley, he is survived by his wife of 24 years, Catherine (Damon) Hartley. He was the cherished father to Kristin Hartley of Easthampton, caring brother to Andrew Hartley of Westfield, Bret Hartley and his wife Tasha of Blandford, and Brian Hartley and his wife Kathleen of Westfield.  He was predeceased by his sister Molly Ann Hartley in 1968.  Daniel will be missed by all who knew him, including several nieces and nephews. The family asked that you gather Tuesday, June 7 at 11 am for a Memorial Service at Wyben Union Church, 678 Montgomery Road, Westfield, MA.  The burial will be private for the family.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Easthampton Savings Bank in honor of Daniel Hartley for the benefit of Kristin Hartley’s Education Fund.

Westfield Funeral Home and Cremation, 4 Princeton Street, Westfield has been entrusted with these arrangements.  Please visit www.Westfieldfuneralhome.com for more information.
