WESTFIELD – Hard work has paid off for Sierra DeMarinis, who earned a full athletic scholarship to Central Michigan University where she is committed to the Chippewas women’s gymnastics team beginning in fall 2018.
DeMarinis, a Montgomery native and senior at Westfield High School, signed her national letter of intent on November 10 to join the university, which competes in the NCAA’s Division 1 Mid-Atlantic Conference. Her signing comes after several months of recruitment from CMU as the result of an outstanding performance at the Junior Olympic National Championships in Indianapolis last May. At the J.O. National event, DeMarinis placed 10th overall on the floor exercise and posted her season best score in the all-around to solidify her recognition from the school as a scholarship candidate.
Currently, DeMarinis represents Roots Gymnastics Center in Westfield where she trains 20 hours per week. Her senior season will kick off in January with the goal of culminating at yet another J.O. national championships, this time in Cincinnati, Ohio.
