BOSTON (AP) — Democratic state Auditor Suzanne Bump has been elected to a second term in office, defeating Republican challenger Patricia Saint Aubin.
Bump says her goal as auditor has been to make state government “more effective, more efficient, more accountable and more transparent.”
She said during her first term that she conducted performance audits of state agencies and contractors looking beyond normal compliance.
She also said she’s stepped up oversight of child care agencies and her work led to more frequent inspections of child care facilities, improved background checks and improved oversight of special education services.
The Great Barrington resident says she’s also identified millions of dollars in fraud.
Saint Aubin is a Norfolk resident who has worked as an auditor. She ran a relatively low-profile campaign against the better-funded Bump
