SPRINGFIELD (AP) – The Hampden district attorney is warning there may be a more lethal strain of heroin being distributed in the area.
Hampden District Attorney Anthony D. Gulluni said Saturday there has been a spike of medical emergencies and fatalities due to opiates in the past 48 hours.
He’s advising the public that there’s currently an increased risk of overdose and death from the use of illicit opiates, including heroin.
Gulluni directed the Massachusetts State Police Detective Unit attached to his office to investigate.
Gulluni also called attention to the “Good Samaritan Law.” Anyone who calls 911 to report an overdose will not be charged with the possession or use of opiates.
Anyone with information about the strain is asked to contact the Massachusetts State Police, Springfield Barracks.
