Dog kills dog

WESTFIELD – A feisty little dog escaped the control of its owner to confront a pit bull dog with tragic results for the Chihuahua dog Wednesday evening.
City police report that a 9:30 p.m. caller reported that his dog had been killed by neighbor’s dog and Officer Stephen Gonglik was dispatched to investigate. The director of animal control operations, Ken Frazer, followed up on his investigation.
Frazer reports that the Chihuahua jumped from its owner’s car and ran up to the pit bull barking at it whereupon the larger dog grabbed the smaller dog by its neck and “shook it to death.”
The pit bull was being walked on leash on George Street by a pre-teen boy who attempted to pull the dog away from the confrontation and the Chihuahua’s owner said that he punched the pit bull repeatedly before it released the smaller dog which had expired.
Frazer said that the pit bull dog is too strong to be walked by the young boy but pointed out that it was on leash, licensed and up-to-date with required vaccinations.
The same was not true of the Chihuahua which was unlicensed and had not been inoculated against rabies as required by law.
Frazer said that the pit bull will be quarantined for ten days as is required in any dog biting incident.
