East Hartford, CT – Doris Jean (Waterhouse) Gunter passed away Sunday, April 12, 2020 at the age of 92. Doris was born in Springfield, MA, to George (Sid) and Florence Waterhouse on November 26, 1927. She graduated from High School of Commerce, Springfield, MA, in 1945. She began employment with the Eastern States Farmers Exchange in Springfield. In 1950 she took a job as a secretary with the civil service in the Azore Islands where she met her beloved husband, SSGT Otis D. Gunter (U.S. Air Force) of Henagar, AL. They married in Springfield, MA on July 28, 1951. Doris had many interests, including travel, square dancing, numerology, astrology and caring for her house plants.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, O.D. Gunter, in 1996; and her parents, Sid (1971) and Florence Waterhouse (1984). She is survived by her four children and their families: Beverly Gunter and husband Larry Magoon of Farmington Hills, MI; Craig Gunter and wife Pam of Matawan, NJ; Tod Gunter of Huntington, VT; and Keith Gunter and wife Amy of East Hartford, CT; seven grandchildren and one great granddaughter.
The family would like to extend our deepest appreciation to Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center in East Hartford for the excellent care that our mom was given.
