YOUNGSTOWN, OH – Dorothy Tomei passed away March 7, 2013, at Windsor House at Omni Manor Health Care Center in Youngstown, Ohio. Born in Tyre, New York, Dorothy was the second youngest and last surviving of nine children born to Ralph Perry Wedge and Ada LaBlanch Hildreth Wedge.
Dorothy spent most of her life in Westfield, MA. She attended Westfield High School and worshipped at the Second Congregational Church. She was married to former Westfield City Councilman and Police Commissioner James Tomei (1925-2003). As a young adult, Dorothy was a professional dancer. She kept her passion for dance throughout her life. Dorothy loved sewing, leisurely drives along the Mohawk Trail, summer trips to the beach, and keeping in touch with her high school classmates. She was a homemaker and also helped her husband manage Westfield Sewing Center, which they owned in downtown Westfield for many years.
Dorothy is survived by three of her five children, William Tomei of Campbell Ohio, Lance Tomei of Daytona Beach Shores, Florida and Laurie Tomei of Westfield, MA as well as nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, James Tomei; her son, James “Jimmy” Tomei, and her daughter, Sherry Hatch.
The family is planning a private memorial ceremony. The Robert E Cusack Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
