BOSTON – State Senator Benjamin B. Downing (D- Pittsfield) is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for Massachusetts residents to get involved in improving the way state government works.
Pioneer Institute, a non-profit public policy research group, is sponsoring the 22nd Better Government Competition (BGC), which annually seeks ideas from individuals about how to improve government efficiency and effectiveness. The BGC provides an unrivaled opportunity for citizen involvement in the development of government policy. Implementation of winning ideas from previous Competitions has saved taxpayers more than $750 million.
The 2013 competition seeks ideas to facilitate “job creation.” Pioneer Institute welcomes innovative ideas that will spur economic growth in our state with the focus on durable mechanisms to avoid future fiscal crisis.
In order to improve the efficiency of state and local budgets and strengthen our economy for both businesses and individuals, Pioneer needs the involvement of concerned Massachusetts citizens. Entries may describe proven programs that have been recently implemented, or innovations not yet undertaken. We encourage entries that will enhance state, county and municipal government operations.
The winner will receive a $10,000 prize presented at the BGC Awards Dinner in June 2013. Runners-up will each receive a $1,000 prize for their proposals to improve government.
“Implementing proposals that streamline government services and programs is always a good idea. I encourage western Massachusetts residents to participate by sending in an entry,” said Downing.
