WESTFIELD – Edith F. (Schultz) McGarry, 90, (1926-2016) passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on June 20, 2016. She was born in Westfield, MA on June 2, 1926 to Bertha (Jukaitis) Schultz and August Schultz. Edith was raised and educated in Westfield and was a lifelong member of St.John’s Lutheran Church. She raised her family in Westfield and worked for Whites Quaint Shop, Robinson Reminders and retired from Westfield Manor Nursing Home in 1991. As a young woman she spent many hours roller skating at local rinks with friends. Later in life her interests included gardening, jigsaw puzzles, sewing and quilting but most of all special times spent with her family. She also took pleasure in traveling and sharing outdoor summer activities with her family, such as boating, swimming and water skiing. Edith has passed on many of these passions to her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, Donald McGarry on March 15, 1996. She leaves three daughters, Diane Rowe of Bethlehem, PA, Carol Stone of West Springfield, MA and Linda Hensley of Westfield, MA, and one son, William McGarry of East Granby, CT. She also leaves two sisters, Elsie Thomson of Simsbury, CT and Ruth Prouty of Westfield, MA and one brother, Richard Schultz of Westfield, MA, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight additional brothers and sisters. She leaves 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to meet for calling hours on Wednesday, June 22, 2016 from 9:30 to 11:00 AM at St.John’s Lutheran Church, 60 Broad Street, Westfield, MA,followed by a service at 11:00 AM in the sanctuary. Burial will be held at St. Johns Cemetery, 139 Lockhouse Road, Westfield, MA. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church’s Building Fund. The family would like to thank the staff of Noble Visiting Nurse and Hospice Services for their wonderful and compassionate care.
