Elizabeth M. Haley Boisseau

Betty “Sis” Haley (6/2/37 – 12/26/16)  was born in Westfield to the late Elizabeth (Sketchley) and George Haley. She was the youngest of her siblings to George, John, and Robert (Red). Growing up with three brothers in the era of the Great Depression, Sis quickly learned there was nothing she couldn’t do that her brothers could! It was not unusual to have an acre of strawberries growing or 1500 chickens to deal with. There was also a lot of laughter in the home with every dog they had being named Jake, a pig Gladys that used to come up to the kitchen window for a donut, and a spider monkey named JoJo. Sis graduated Westfield High School and continued to be a helper in life. She was a member of the Civil Service Defense Team and made many rides on her Indian Tomahawk delivering the emergency blood supply to local hospitals. She also rode delivering the news about the flood of 55’ helping to evacuate citizens. In 1962 Elizabeth married Robert (Bob) Boisseau and they raised two children on the family’s dairy farm. They enjoyed life and worked hard together as a team. Upon her husband’s advice she took a temporary job with the Gary family driving school bus. This lasted 32 years and was always a cute joke between them. To her “kids” on the bus she was known as Mrs. “B”. She was so proud of the fact that she never had trouble on her bus. On the first day of school she gave the talk and for the rest of the year she said she never had any trouble. She was also proud of the fact that she had her CDL and changed her own school bus tires if she had a flat. Betty was a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary Westfield River Valley Detachment 141. She put on hundreds of suppers with her fellow members, visited nursing homes, did the Christmas party for the kids when it was first starting out, and worked from sun up to sun down doing the baked potatoes at the Marine Corps League booth at the Westfield Fair. Betty loved being in nature and was an avid fisherwoman, hunter, and gardener. Camping was also a highlight of her and Bob’s life. She loved stoking the fire pit with her friends, Coors light in hand & Willie Nelson. She also could not miss her WWE on TV. On her bowling night her husband would tape it for her on the VCR! She and Bob were married almost 50 years when he passed to heaven in June of 2012. Betty joined him on Christmas Eve.  She was predeceased by her brothers Red, and George and his wife Jean. She leaves her brother John Haley and her sister-in-law, Red’s wife, Jeanne Haley. She is survived by Beth & David Runyon and family. Brian & Wendy Boisseau and family.  Elizabeth has 5 grandchildren, James (& Amber), Jessica, Kyle (& Kate), Haley (& Chad), and Garret. Her beautiful great grandchildren are Lily, Tessa, Owen, London, Weston, and Shiloh. Her step grandchildren Trent, Gabby, and Gwen. She also has a brother-in-law Richard Boisseau and sister-in-law Muriel, and sisters-in-law Pauline and Dorothy Boisseau. Many nieces, nephews, and very special friends. A memorial service will be held for Elizabeth on Friday January 6th at 6:30 pm at the Wyben Union Chapel, 678 Montgomery Road Westfield. Burial will be at 12:30 Saturday, January 7th from Firtion Adams Funeral home, 76 Broad Street, Westfield to Pine Hill Cemetery. There are no calling hours. If anyone would like to make a donation in Elizabeth’s memory, Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Shiners’ for Children were two organizations that were dear to her heart.
