Adult Events at the Southwick Public Library
MEMOIR WRITING WORKSHOP FOR SENIORS: The Southwick Public Library is pleased to offer a 3-part memoir writing workshop funded with a grant from Sarah Gillett Services for the Elderly, Inc. Is there a special event or person in your life that you’d like to share with family of friends? This workshop will help you do that. A memoir is different from an autobiography which encompasses your entire life. A memoir is about a moment in time that was special in some way. Haven Williams will lead our workshop at 1:30 p.m. on October 10th, 17th and 24th. You will need to register in advance for this program since space is limited. We request that you attend all 3 sessions. This program is open to those that are 55 years-old and up. To register please call the library at 569-1221 ext. 2 or register at the Circulation Desk when visiting the library. Participants need to bring a pencil or pen and paper to write on.
FRIENDS FALL CRAFT FAIR: The Friends of the Southwick Public Library will be holding their Fall Craft Fair at Southwick Town Hall on Saturday, October 13th from 9 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Unique hand crafted items will be available for sale. Due to a large number of vendors participating, items will be available for sale outside, in the auditorium and in the Senior Center. Lunch and snacks will be available to purchase. There will also be a special sale of new and slightly used craft supplies. All proceeds will be used to support programs at the Southwick Public Library.
NO! STRESS JUST COLORING, CHATTING & COOKIES: No registration! You don’t need to bring supplies! Drop-in anytime between 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m. on Monday, October 15th. It doesn’t make any difference if you spend more time chatting than coloring. Our goal is for you to have an enjoyable evening. Did I mention there are cookies?
CHALLENGE! TRIVIA WITH BROTHERS BRETT & NIK OUTCHCUNIS AT SPL. GET YOUR TEAM READY! You may remember seeing the talented and entertaining Brett Outchcunis (The Ooch) present his yo-yo program at the Southwick Public Library several years ago. It was a huge success. Well now the Friends of the Southwick Public Library are having Brett and his brother Nik back to host their Challenge! Trivia program for adults on Wednesday, October 17th starting at 6:30 p.m. Join in the fun whether you are a team of one or a team of 5! All questions will be projected on a big screen and there is an audio system to make sure everyone hears the questions. One member from each team will need to have a smart phone. Using the library’s Wi-Fi, you will submit your answer right from your phone. At Challenge! Trivia, they run multiple team challenges during each episode that get you up out of your seat and mingling with other teams. Also, there are audio and video questions that add an additional interactive element to the night. Oh, and we have a secret weapon at the end of each game called “The Equalizer” that gives daring teams the chance to come from behind and win it all! The program will be preceded by a brief Friends meeting at 6:15. Come early and get your team organized prior to the start of trivia at 6:30 p.m.
