Southwick Public Library December Events

December 3, 2019 @ 8:00 am - December 23, 2019 @ 5:00 pm

Cookie and Candy Exchange – December 3, 6:30 pm: The Cookbook Club will not meet in November and will hold their December meeting in the form of a cookie and candy swap! Join us December 3 at 6:30 pm. Registration is required. Please provide us with a copy of your recipe in advance- we will be making a booklet for all attendees! Participants are asked to make 4 dozen of their favorite cookies or candies. (And bring an extra container to take some home in!). Please be advised: Neither the food served at cookbook club, and prepared in home kitchens, nor the facilities have been inspected by the state or the local public health agency. When you come to the event, feel free to bring an item to donate to the Community Food Pantry. We will also begin collecting items the week before.

Book Discussions – New Options!: Join one of our two book discussions (or both)! We will now be offering an afternoon and an evening book discussion for those who can’t make it to the afternoon session. Copies will be available at the library to buy (for the afternoon session) or borrow (for both). Our books for December: Afternoon Book Discussion – December 4, 1:30 pm: We will be discussing Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng, a story of family woes in the suburbs. Evening Book Discussion – December 18, 7 pm: We will be reading the nail-biting thriller Lock Every Door by Riley Sager.

Friends Basket Raffle: Thank you to everyone who donated a basket or purchased a raffle ticket. Baskets will be on display and tickets available for purchase through December 13. The baskets will be raffled off on the morning of December 14. You do not have to be present to win. If you do win, the library will contact you to come and pick up your prize. Thank you for supporting the Friends of the Southwick Public Library.

Color, Chat & Cookies for Adults – December 16, 6:30 – 8 pm: Stop by and enjoy an evening of relaxing coloring. Coffee and tea will be available, as well as cookies. We have all the supplies you need, but you’re welcome to bring something of your own as well.

Socrates Café – December 17, 6:30pm: The Socrates Cafe is an opportunity for ordinary people to wrestle with the big questions in a discussion. Alternative viewpoints are encouraged and explored. All discussion takes place in an atmosphere of respect and encouragement. People from all walks of life are encouraged to attend and contribute their unique views.

Giving Tree: Our giving tree will be up until December 20. At that time, we will donate all collected items to the local DCF. We welcome any donations of new or homemade hats, scarves, mittens, or gloves. Thank you for giving the gift of warmth this winter!

Friends Book Sale- Holiday Sale! The ongoing Friends book sale will be offering half off hardcover books (regularly $1). Stop by and stock up for yourself or someone else! We also have a great selection of paperbacks, children’s and teen books, magazines, DVD’s, audiobooks, or music CD’s. The sale will run through December 23.
