Woronoco Heights Outdoor Adventures (WHOA!) will welcome the arrival of spring with activities for families and groups on Saturday April 27 from 9am to 3pm using the facilities of the Horace Moses Scout Reservation. The 1300 acre camp is at 310 Birch hill Rd. in Russell MA, just 20 minutes from I-90 Exit 3.

Planned are 14 different activities this month. Participation is open to all families and activities for children as young as 5 years old are offered as well as activities interesting to older youth and adults. Membership in Scouting is not required. Back on the schedule this month are Mountain Bikes and Disc Golf. For mountain biking participants can bring their own or have one provided.

Being added for April are Birding and Kite Building. Birding offers a chance to see species not normally found at backyard feeders. Birders are encouraged to bring binoculars. Kites will be built from scratch and if wind is present a chance to see if yours will fly.

Popular activities from the winter season will also continue. The Black Smith Shop will be open for trying your hand at a small project, and this month there will be two escape rooms to provide beginners and experienced players appropriate challenges.

Several target ranges will be open with age restrictions. Tomahawk throwing, BB rifles, black powder rifle, and small caliber pistols are all planned for the day.

The entire day is $15 per person, with youth 5 to 9 years $10. Groups of 10 or more are discounted at $10 per person. Pre-registration isn’t required but encouraged using www.wmascouting.org/WHOA. Groups are requested to contact Director Mike Kirby by emailing [email protected] to mutually plan a perfect day. Equipment will be provided and activities will be supervised by experienced staff.

Each program is available from 9 am until 3 pm and subject to change, especially due to weather conditions. Some programs require signing up for a specific time period. Participants may arrive/leave at any time. Check-in, which begins at 8:45 am, is at the camp’s Trading Post where a menu of hot food and snacks will also be for sale.
